Help Centre

Bring your writing into PlotDirector

On Projects, choose Import a manuscript to use the established manuscript onboarding and Word Companion workflow. Structure and AI suggestions remain subject to your review.

Choose Restore books from backup for a `.plotdirector` file. Select books, choose a new project or a project you own, then review the preview before confirming. Each book needs an available subscription slot, including archived books.

The old JSON outline editor, schema samples and paste box are no longer part of the ordinary author workflow. Historical project backup files remain supported through Restore books, with warnings where older formats cannot contain newer information.

Keep these actions separate

  • Back up books downloads selected books and necessary shared project information. It never deletes anything.
  • Archive hides an online book; it still uses capacity.
  • Delete Forever permanently removes an archived online book and releases its slot. Check your local backup first.
  • Saved restore points rewind the same project. They are separate from adding books from a downloaded backup.

Read Book backup and restore for the complete workflow.
