1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using PlotDirector, you agree to these Terms of Service.

If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use the service.

2. About PlotDirector

PlotDirector is an online writing, planning, and story organisation platform designed to help authors manage projects, books, chapters, scenes, characters, locations, timelines, continuity notes, and related creative material.

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

3. Accounts and Security

You are responsible for keeping your account details, password, and any two-factor authentication recovery information secure.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must provide accurate account information and keep your email address up to date so that we can contact you about your account, subscription, security, or service-related matters.

4. Use of the Service

You agree to use PlotDirector lawfully, responsibly, and in accordance with these terms.

You must not:

• Attempt unauthorised access to the service, accounts, systems, or data
• Interfere with the operation, security, performance, or availability of the platform
• Use the service for unlawful, harmful, abusive, or fraudulent purposes
• Upload malware, malicious code, or material intended to damage or disrupt systems
• Attempt to reverse engineer, copy, exploit, or bypass the service or its restrictions
• Use bots, scraping tools, automated scripts, or other automated methods without written permission
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the service without written permission
• Attempt to circumvent subscription limits, usage limits, or account restrictions

If you would like automation or integration features, you should contact us or submit a feature request so that the requirement can be reviewed properly.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of the stories, notes, manuscripts, project data, characters, locations, timelines, images, and other content you create, upload, or store in PlotDirector.

We do not claim ownership of your creative work.

By using the service, you grant PlotDirector a limited licence to store, process, display, back up, and transmit your content only as necessary to provide, maintain, secure, and improve the service.

You are responsible for ensuring that your content is lawful and that you have the rights needed to store and use it within PlotDirector.

6. PlotDirector Intellectual Property

PlotDirector, including its software, design, branding, logo, features, workflows, user interface, documentation, and underlying technology, remains the property of PlotDirector and its licensors.

You must not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from PlotDirector except as permitted by these terms or with written permission.

7. Subscriptions, Trials, and Billing

PlotDirector may offer free trials, free access, and paid subscription plans.

Free trials are available for one month unless otherwise stated. After the trial period ends, you will need an active paid subscription to continue using paid features.

Paid subscriptions renew automatically according to the billing period you select, such as monthly or annually, unless cancelled before the renewal date.

Payments are processed by Stripe or another payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our servers.

You may upgrade or downgrade your subscription using the subscription management options provided. Changes may take effect immediately or at the next billing period, depending on the payment provider and subscription rules in place at the time.

Prices may change from time to time. Where required, we will provide reasonable notice of pricing changes affecting your subscription.

Unless otherwise stated, prices do not include taxes, duties, or charges that may apply in your location.

8. Cancellation and Expired Subscriptions

You may cancel your subscription using the subscription management options provided.

If your subscription ends, is cancelled, expires, or payment fails, access to paid features may be restricted or removed.

We may retain your account data for a limited period after your subscription ends to allow for possible reactivation, administration, or legal compliance.

However, we are not obliged to retain data after a subscription ends. We may delete account data at our discretion, and in any event may delete it after three months from the date your subscription ends or your account becomes inactive.

You should export or back up any important work before cancelling your subscription or allowing it to expire.

9. Backups and Data Loss

We may maintain system backups for disaster recovery, security, and service continuity purposes.

These backups are intended to protect the service in the event of server failure or serious technical issues. They are not a user-level restore service.

You are responsible for maintaining your own independent backups and exports of important work.

PlotDirector is not responsible for loss of user content caused by user error, accidental deletion, account cancellation, expired subscriptions, unauthorised access caused by compromised credentials, or failure to keep your own backups.

10. Availability and Hosting

We aim to provide a reliable service, but uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

The service may be unavailable from time to time due to maintenance, updates, technical faults, internet outages, hosting issues, power cuts, security incidents, or events outside our reasonable control.

We may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the service at any time.

11. Third-Party Services

PlotDirector may rely on third-party providers for services such as payment processing, email delivery, hosting, analytics, security, and authentication.

We are not responsible for the availability, performance, policies, or actions of third-party providers.

Your use of third-party services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

12. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe that:

• You have breached these terms
• Your account has been used unlawfully, abusively, or fraudulently
• Your use of the service creates a security, legal, operational, or reputational risk
• You have attempted to interfere with, exploit, or overload the service
• Payment has failed or your subscription is no longer active

Where appropriate, we may give you notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue, but we are not required to do so where immediate action is necessary.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

PlotDirector is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or suitable for every purpose.

We do not guarantee that the service will meet your specific requirements or that any stored content will never be lost, corrupted, or unavailable.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PlotDirector shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or financial losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service.

This includes, but is not limited to, loss of profits, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill, loss of data, or loss of creative work.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer protection laws.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless PlotDirector from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising from your use of the service, your content, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

16. Changes to the Service

PlotDirector may change, improve, remove, or discontinue features over time.

We will try to avoid unnecessary disruption, but we cannot guarantee that any particular feature will remain available permanently.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date shown on this page.

Where changes are significant, we may provide additional notice by email, account notification, or another reasonable method.

Continued use of PlotDirector after updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

18. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes relating to these terms or the use of PlotDirector shall be subject to the courts of England and Wales, unless applicable consumer law requires otherwise.
